New Years Pet Safety

NYE CELEBRATIONS?

Whether you plan on going out or staying in for New Years Eve, don’t forget to ensure your pet is safe and comfortable during the festivities!

GOING OUT?

  • Be sure to take your dog out to the bathroom on a leash prior to leaving for the evening, and of course when you return!

  • Are their collars and ID tags properly on? Always good to make sure just in case they were to get lost or escape.

  • Have fresh pet food and fresh water in the usual feeding spot for easy access.

  • Put soothing music on so they have background noise.

  • Is your dog scared of fireworks? Give them dog-safe CBD products to help relax them, and make sure they have a confined space they feel safe in. We recommend their favorite room with the door shut.

  • Let a neighbor or friend know your dog(s) are home alone and ask them to check on them if you will be gone longer than a few hours.

STAYING IN?

  • If you are having a small gathering or large party at home, make sure your pets have a safe place to retreat to that is quiet and away from people. Make sure they have their bed, favorite toys, soft music, and plenty of fresh food and water available.

  • Set a reminder on your phone to take your dog out to the bathroom every 2-3 hours if you will be starting festivities early - it is easy to get lost in the fun and forget! If you put them in the backyard, keep an eye on them and return them indoors to stay warm and stay safe.

  • Provide your pet with a fun toy to keep them occupied, or give them a safe pet chew (just supervise them while they eat it and have plenty of water present!)

  • Remind your guests not to feed your pets any people food out of precaution - nobody wants a pet with an upset stomach or worse. Friendly reminder to avoid giving pets onions, grapes, alcohol, chocolate, sugar, etc.
